Science prize for Siegen media theorist

This year's Aby Warburg Foundation Science Prize goes to Prof. Dr. Erhard Schüttpelz from the University of Siegen. The academic prize continues the lecture tradition of the former Kulturwissenschaftliche Bibliothek Warburg. It is awarded to academics working on a significant topic in the arts, cultural studies or humanities. The award comes with prize money of 5,000 euros and a lecture by the winner at the Warburg House. The lecture by Prof. Schüttpelz is expected to take place in November.

Erhard Schüttpelz (born 1961) has been Professor of Media Theory at the University of Siegen since 2005, where he was the main applicant and long-standing spokesperson for the DFG Research Training Group Locating Media and the important Siegen Collaborative Research Center (SFB) "Media of Cooperation", which is now in its third funding phase. As an interdisciplinary research network, the SFB focuses on contemporary digital research.

Schüttpelz studied German and English language and literature in Hanover, Exeter, Bonn, Cologne and Oxford and completed his doctorate at the University of Bonn in 1994. He was a scholarship holder at Columbia University, New York, a postdoctoral researcher at the DFG Research Training Group "Theory of Literature and Communication" at the University of Konstanz and a research assistant at the Collaborative Research Center "Media and Cultural Communication" at the Universities of Cologne, Bonn and Aachen before coming to the University of Siegen. Erhard Schüttpelz found his academic "home" in media studies, which the prizewinner says is "a subject that I could not have studied or thought of better to pursue my interest in cooperation opportunities."
