Statement from the University of Siegen
The University of Siegen made a room available to the Muslim University Group (MHG) for the event with Dr. Martin Mahmud Kellner. This was a self-organized event that is not part of teaching at the university. Due to staffing levels, comprehensive monitoring of all events is not possible and has not been indicated to date.
The University of Siegen did not have any details on the implementation of the MHG event with regard to separate entrances for the genders. The University would not have agreed to such a procedure under any circumstances.
The University of Siegen expressly distances itself from any form of unequal treatment of the sexes. Such practices are in absolute contradiction to the University's general guidelines and values, which are based on equality, openness and inclusion.
The university management has already been informed of the incident and is investigating the matter. The university management will seek a discussion with the MHG and make it clear that this approach is not acceptable. Until the matter has been clarified, we will suspend MHG events on university premises. We reserve the right to take further steps and carry out checks.
In principle, suitable premises are available for use by all members of the university. The prerequisite for this, however, is that the use is in accordance with the applicable laws as well as the regulations and values of the university.
