The Department of Geotechnical Engineering at the 39th Conference on Building Ground in Leipzig

From September 23–25, 2026, the 39th Geotechnical Engineering Conference of the German Geotechnical Society (DGGT) took place in Leipzig. With nearly 1,800 participants and over 90 companies with exhibition booths, the conference was once again a resounding success.

The conference began on September 23 with the special session “Forum for Young Geotechnical Engineers,” where our research associate Johannes Kuhlmann presented research findings from our BMWE-funded LeVoresT project on “The Influence of Installation Effects on the Load-Bearing Behavior of Full-Displacement Drilled Piles.”

On the second day of the conference, Prof.Kerstin Lesny, who is also chair of the DGGT Working Group AK 2.15 “Reliability-Based Methods in Geotechnical Engineering,” gave a presentation in the “Research and Innovation” session on “Design Verification of Existing Geotechnical Structures Using Reliability-Based Methods.” In addition, she co-authored the papers “Structure and Concept of the Second Generation of Eurocodes” and “Principles of Design for Shallow and Deep Foundations Based on the Second Generation of Eurocodes,” which were presented in the session “Standardization: Eurocodes and New Developments.”

On the final day, a poster pitch by the universities also took place. As part of the accompanying poster exhibition, the research work of our doctoral students Shervin Samadi and Shuai Zhang was presented.

Last but not least, two of our students once again participated in a raffle organized by the Young DGGT and won a full conference package. Ms. Ackermann and Ms. Brenner were thus able to attend the 39th Geotechnical Conference and, thanks in no small part to the support provided by the Young DGGT, gained many interesting insights. We were very pleased about this!
