Tower building competition at the Chair of Structural Design
Tower building competition at the Chair of Structural Design
In the last lecture of the winter semester 2025, the Chair of Structural Design organized a tower building competition. The students from the first semester designed and built a tower from shashlik sticks and marshmallows, which was then presented and discussed together.
The exciting designs showed a variety of geometric variants and very clearly conveyed the load-bearing behavior of truss constructions as well as the particular importance of bracing in tall, slender structures. This semester, three equal first prizes were awarded for the best towers as well as two commendations.
"The Leaning Tower of Paul-Bonatz" by students Kim Münker, Alicia Keßler and Sina Bergmann won the prize for the tallest tower with a height of 1.95 meters. Almira Gümüskanat, Emirhan Kunt, Sina Fellmer, Mila Vukotic and Gökdeniz Yildiz received a prize for their "Tannenbaum" tower for a particularly consistently implemented three-dimensional framework with appealing aesthetics. The "Tetra-Tower" by Lukas Braun, Aileen Kothe, Bjarne Klein and Christian Rödder impressed with its particularly strong concept, taking into account minimized resource consumption, and also received a prize. Two commendations went to the towers "Trypod" by Arthur Iskandirov, Michal Pietrak, Philipp Lehne and Joshua Hundt and "Der Turm" by Paul Schrade, Maximilian Mesch, Ole Gieseler and Jonas Luks.
We would like to thank all students for the great event and look forward to the courses in the BA 11.2 - Structural Design module in the summer semester 2026.
