Welcome Day for the new trainees
The first day in a new job is usually associated with an emotional cocktail of anticipation and uncertainty. This is even more true when it comes to starting a new career. For Lily Davie, Anne-Lisa Eichenauer, Enola Gierelt, Fabian Franz, Mark Denis, Jaspar Kraft and Ben Güthing, this will be the case on August 1 this year. They will then begin their training at the University of Siegen. Ben and Jasper will become industrial mechanics. Mark and Fabian will learn the profession of IT specialist. Enola will become a draughtswoman specializing in architecture. Anne-Lisa starts as a trainee administrative assistant, and Lily trains as a media and information services specialist in the library.
Cathrin Wienkamp and Sarah Pieper have organized a Welcome Day so that they can get to know the university, their trainers and the trainees from the other training years beforehand. The two training managers at the University of Siegen welcomed the trainees in the university's Senate Hall together with Head of Human Resources Benjamin Schwarzer. "The time between the selection process and starting work is long," said Schwarzer. "Think of the Welcome Day as a kind of warm-up for the start in the summer."
As the trainees will be working in different areas and at different locations, Sarah Pieper and Cathrin Wienkamp emphasized that this was a good opportunity to get to know each other, network and learn more about everyday working life from the trainees from the older cohorts.
The current trainees had designed posters especially for their new colleagues to show the wide range of areas in which vocational training is possible at the University of Siegen. Apprenticeships offered by the University of Siegen include IT specialist (specializing in system integration), media and information services specialist, industrial mechanic (specializing in precision engineering), materials tester (specializing in metal technology), draftsman, electronics technician for buildings and infrastructure systems, office management assistant and administrative assistant candidate (Bachelor of Laws).
In a relaxed atmosphere, they explained, talked, laughed and then ate pizza together, so that the new trainees can look forward to starting their careers in August.
