Greetings from the Chancellor of the University of Siegen

Dear employees of the university secretariats,

Academics receive recognition for their successful research work in the form of public attention, publications, funding approvals - and sometimes even awards. Your work is recognized and appreciated. It is generally assumed that the associated organizational work in the departments, at the chairs or within the university administration works. Successful management of university secretariats is characterized by the fact that it functions smoothly and is therefore NOT visible.

This is precisely why your work, which usually takes place in the background, deserves the highest recognition. As in many areas of the university, your area of responsibility has become increasingly complex in recent years. Dealing with a wide variety of software solutions is just as much a part of this as increased bureaucracy or language requirements. You have to remain calm in difficult and stressful situations and find creative solutions. Added to this is dealing with superiors, which is certainly not always easy.

Against this background, joining together in a network, supporting each other and exchanging experiences and information is an initiative that I expressly welcome and support. Since September 2014, the University Secretariat network has been part of the university's basic regulations - and that is important and right.

I would like to thank you for your commitment and am happy to be available for a regular exchange.

Your
Ulf Richter

Chancellor of the University of Siegen
