Research Profile
Project Structure
The overarching goal of this research project is to examine the still underrepresented role of women in the history and philosophy of mathematics and physics in order to promote gender equality and increase the visibility of women in the sciences. The focus is on the period from the late 19th to the early 20th century, which was marked by philosophy’s concerted efforts to redefine its place within the natural sciences and establish itself as a foundational discipline.
Objective and Method
A primary focus of the research is on case studies that reveal the multifaceted historical interconnections between scientific progress, research practices, and their social and political contexts. Against this backdrop, qualitative and quantitative research approaches are used to place women at the center of the research. Furthermore, the study focuses on the historical context of the protagonists’ scientific contributions, which enables a deeper understanding of fundamental scientific relationships.
