Faisal Mahmood has been a Research Associate in the Educational Technologies for Digital Transformation research group at FernUniversität in Hagen, led by Prof. Dr. Thomas Ludwig, since May 1, 2023. In this role, he contributes to applied research at the intersection of software engineering, and large language models (LLMs). He worked on research project “What2Study”, where he developed a no-code low-code platform for LLM based chatbot integration for study orientation and student advising at universities to enhance their services.
From January 2022 to April 2023, he worked as a Research Assistant at the University of Siegen in the Cyber-Physical Systems research group, where he served as the technical lead for the “RegioQuest” research project. RegioQuest aimed to improve the visibility of training and job opportunities through gamified and location-based approaches.
Faisal Mahmood holds an M.Sc. in Computer Science (2022) from Paderborn University and a B.Sc. in Computer Science (2017) from COMSATS University Islamabad. During his Master’s studies, he worked for two years as a student research assistant (WHK) in the KontiKat research group at the University of Siegen, where he developed web applications for Business Continuity Management (BCM) and Business Impact Analysis (BIA).
Currently Faisal Mahmood is working in EDIH hub South Westphalia research project as a technical lead responsible for protyping and technical development.
His research interests include knowledge sharing, knowledge management, conversational agents, and applied natural language processing, with a focus on building practical digital systems that support oriantation, learning and organizational work.
