Thorsten Wagner studied piano (classical and jazz) at the Detmold University of Music, as well as musicology, philosophy, and German language and literature at Ruhr University Bochum, where he earned his doctorate with a dissertation on “Franco Evangelisti and the Nuova Consonanza Improvisation Group.” He served as pianist at the Städtische Bühnen Krefeld/Mönchengladbach and at theaters in Münster and Hagen, as well as musical director at the Theater Osnabrück. As a member of various jazz and improvisation ensembles, he has performed with artists such as Maggie Nichols, Giancarlo Schiaffini, Stephan Mattner, and Barre Philips. In 2006, he founded the ensemble gelbschweigtanders for electroacoustic improvisation.
After several years as a concert programmer for the Bochum Symphony Orchestra, he passed his second state examination in music and philosophy and worked as a teacher in Soest and as a lecturer in piano at the University of Dortmund. Since 2005, he has served as a lecturer for special assignments in the fields of music education and music practice at the University of Siegen. The focus of his work is on:
