Welcome to the Chair of Communication Engineering at the University of Siegen
In the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Schools IV, we develop and research sustainable and energy-efficient solutions for wireless communication and sensor systems. Our work aims to design modern technologies for the Internet of Things (IoT) and industrial digitalization in an environmentally friendly, resource-saving and future-proof way.
About us
Development of modern wireless communication systems
The Chair of Communication Engineering at the University of Siegen is dedicated to research and teaching in the field of sustainable and energy-efficient wireless communication and sensor systems.
The focus is on the development of modern technologies that meet the increasing demands of digital transformation in business and society - from energy-efficient data transmission to the resource-saving integration of IoT systems. Our research activities combine basic research with application-oriented approaches and cover topics such as backscatter communication, near-field communication (NFC), wireless energy transmission and RF energy harvesting. The aim is to create innovative solutions for an environmentally friendly, networked future.

Our research profile
Development of wireless systems
Research at the Chair of Communication Engineering is divided into two central areas:
-
Energy-efficient wireless communication and sensor systems
This area deals with sustainable concepts for future wireless systems. The focus is on backscatter communication, near-field communication (NFC), wireless energy transmission and RF energy harvesting for the realization of battery-free, autonomous sensor and communication nodes for the Internet of Things (IoT) and industrial applications. -
Integrated high-frequency circuits for the low-power range
Highly integrated RF and microwave circuits are developed here that are specially designed for energy-efficient applications. These include miniaturized antennas, transponders and adaptive circuit architectures that enable the sustainable implementation of modern communication technologies.
Research focus
-
Backscatter communication and passive RFID systems for the realization of extremely energy-efficient, battery-free sensors
-
Near-field communication (NFC) and wireless sensor networks for powerful and sustainable IoT applications
-
Wireless power transfer (WPT) for contactless power supply of sensor nodes
-
RF energy harvesting for autonomous power supply of IoT devices
-
Highly optimized analogue front ends for (ultra) low-power wireless communication and energy harvesting systems
-
Miniaturized antenna and transponder technologies for the optimization of passive and semi-passive sensor nodes
-
System-on-a-chip and system-in-package solutions to realize highly integrated communication systems with reduced material usage
