Accompanying research of the IW junior pilot project
For the pilot implementation of IW Junior as part of the state government's KAoA strategy (Kein Abschluss ohne Anschluss), ZÖBIS is evaluating the extent to which the project results in changes in attitudes and interests among the participating teachers and pupils. The project is designed as a quantitative longitudinal study with selective control group comparison. The results will be incorporated into the eventual roll-out of IW Junior as part of KAoA in NRW.
Project description
The research project "How does the Business Rally work?" examines the effects of a classroom entrepreneurship format on pupils and teachers in a school context. The aim is to empirically evaluate the effectiveness of the so-called Business Rally - a practice-oriented learning arrangement to promote entrepreneurial skills.
The starting point is the assumption that teaching offers are not only shaped by curricular requirements, but also to a large extent by teacher characteristics and their implementation in the classroom. These in turn influence the use by pupils and the resulting learning outcomes.
The project combines quantitative and qualitative approaches in order to record both measurable effects on central entrepreneurial dispositions and the subjective perceptions, expectations and experiences of those involved. In addition to the effect on pupils, the role of the teachers and the quality of the materials used are also systematically analyzed.
Focal points of the project
- Investigating the effectiveness of the Business Rally compared to a control group
- Analysis of central entrepreneurial dispositions (e.g. self-efficacy, willingness to take risks, propensity to innovate)
- Investigation of perception and implementation by teachers
- Analysis of students' motivation, attitudes and learning experiences
- Evaluation of the didactic quality of the material and tasks
- Identification of conditions for success and potential for optimization

Research methods & procedure
Quantitative impact analysis
The effectiveness of the Business Rally is examined using a student questionnaire with an experimental and control group, whereby several psychological constructs such as self-efficacy, propensity to innovate and willingness to take risks are assessed.
Qualitative survey of teachers
Pre- and post-surveys of teachers are used to analyze expectations, experiences and assessments of the implementation and impact of the project.
Analysis of entrepreneurial competence dimensions
The focus is on various dimensions of entrepreneurial dispositions, which are operationalized on the basis of established research and surveyed using standardized scales.
Task and material analysis ("task MOT")
The teaching materials used are systematically evaluated on the basis of a scientific analysis grid with regard to subject matter, problem orientation and didactic quality.
Funding bodies and cooperation partners
