CARE REGIO

CARE REGIO was a joint project funded by the Bavarian State Ministry of Health and Care. It was aimed at noticeably relieving the burden on caregivers, caregiving relatives and those in need of care, which was to be achieved with the help of a sustainable application of technical-digital systems.

Project description

Care together - innovative - digital

Intention

In view of the increasing shortage of skilled workers and the simultaneously rising number of people in need of support and care in Germany, digital technologies are increasingly becoming the focus of nursing science. The advancing digitalization in care also enables new forms of research through the electronic availability of care data.
Project

CARE REGIO is a joint project funded by the Bavarian State Ministry of Health and Care with the overall aim of designing and establishing a lead region for digital care in Bavarian Swabia. Together with the universities of Augsburg, Neu-Ulm and Kempten and Augsburg University Hospital, the University of Augsburg is analyzing existing care structures in the care sector, identifying new possibilities for facilitation and support based on technical digital systems and processes, and discussing and testing these with all those involved in care, including the private sector, service providers and cost bearers. The project stands for new, patient-centered care and research along a supply chain that starts before a possible hospital stay and extends far into the post-inpatient phase, thus noticeably relieving the burden on nursing staff and caregiving relatives and supporting those in need of care in their independence.

Together with Prof. Dr. Frank Kramer's Chair of IT Infrastructures for Translational Medical Research, the Chair of Health Care Operations/Health Information Management is designing, developing and evaluating a cross-institutional research database (Care Data Lake) to collect harmonized care data sets. The data collected will be systematically analyzed in order to identify potential for improvement in the care sector with the help of operations research methods.
