Portrait Ernst Cassirer

Project Description

The aim of the project is a comprehensive, historical-philosophical analysis and presentation of Ernst Cassirer’s philosophy of mathematics, encompassing his entire philosophical development up to his philosophy of culture.

In doing so, the well-founded aim of current Cassirer research—to maintain a view of Cassirer’s systematic overall approach even when addressing specific questions— with the focus of contemporary philosophy of mathematics, which is primarily concerned with more specialized questions and has, until now, generally engaged only with Cassirer’s early epistemological writings.

To this end, a major international conference is planned for the first quarter of 2023, which aims to bring together Cassirer research with current research on Cassirer’s philosophy of mathematics.
