The first work package focuses on determining the current status of sustainability efforts in accordance with the project's pillar model. These pillars consist of the areas of environment, infrastructure & energy, people, organization & management and resilience. In order to obtain reliable data, a literature review based on the method of Brocke et al. (2009) as well as a comprehensive status quo survey of all Bavarian hospitals and detailed interviews with 26 representative hospitals will be conducted.

Not only current sustainability factors are important, but also the future resilience of the supply chain. Once these factors have been identified, the availability and practicability of the data are analyzed. The analysis is carried out in four steps, with the first step focusing on data protection and ethics, followed by a consolidation of the data in a data center, where a descriptive and statistical analysis provides initial insights. The third and fourth steps consist of applying the indicators to the data and adjusting the indicators if necessary.

The aim of the third work package is to implement and evaluate the indicators from WP2 at a selection of 10 operating sites in 26 Bavarian hospitals. The planned and implemented sustainability measures and their cost-benefit ratio will be analyzed. In addition, the basic processes are documented and the provision of relevant key indicators is determined.

In WP4, a best practice database will be created with the identified sustainability measures. In addition, the indicators will be compiled in a web-based "demonstrator" that enables the end user to evaluate their hospital.

One aim is to raise awareness of the Green HospitalPLUS initiative. This certificate is intended to help hospitals attract new staff, as one of the pillars is focused on people.
