Your PROMOS Scholarship
You have received a Global Exchange seat offer? If so, you will automatically be considered for the PROMOS scholarship selection.
The scholarship typically includes a monthly grant which ranges between €450 and €550 for your stay and a one-time travel allowance which ranges between €1,000 and €2,375. The amounts vary depending on your country of destination.
The number of scholarships, their composition, and duration depend on the availability of sufficient funding.
Scholarship Awarding and Payment
You are only eligible for a partial PROMOS scholarship if you are participating in the University of Siegen’s Global Exchange Program. Your study period at our partner university must last between 4 weeks and 6 months.
All Global Exchange applications received in full and on time are reviewed and evaluated by the respective academic coordinators and project coordinator. A ranking is determined based on the average overall evaluation. If our funds are insufficient to support all participating students, this ranking will be used to award scholarships.
Scholarships are awarded in early to mid-September for the following summer semester and in early to mid-February for the following winter semester.
Partial scholarships are awarded exclusively for the duration of the study period abroad (max. 6 months). The scholaship start and end dates are based on the start and end of the study period abroad.
Funding rates vary depending on the country of destination. The number and composition of scholarships depend on the availability of corresponding funding.
In total, you can receive funding through PROMOS for up to 12 months up to six months each for your bachelor’s and master’s programs.
To receive your scholarship payment, you are required to submit the Global Exchange/PROMOS program documents by the given deadline.
Once you have submitted your program documents, you will receive a scholarship agreement. After this agreement has been signed by you and the project coordinator, you receive your first scholarship payments.
Partial scholarships for mobility (travel grants) are usually paid one month before the start of the stay, while partial scholarships for the stay itself are paid at the beginning of each month.
If you do not submit the Global Exchange program documents (in full) before or after your stay, if you do not begin your planned studies abroad, or if you terminate them early, we will have to reclaim the funding that has already been disbursed.
In this case, the Department International Student Affairs will issue a claim for reimbursement, granting you four weeks to reimburse the amount.
If you do not reimburse the amount within these 4 weeks, your file will be transferred to Department 3: Legal and Academic Affairs, where the appropriate legal proceedings will be initiated.
Minimum ECTS Requirement
If you complete your study abroad program through Global Exchange and fail to complete the required minimum of 15 ECTS credits per semester/term, you must submit a statement explaining why you did not meet the minimum credit requirement. We will decide whether and, if applicable, to what extent the PROMOS funding already disbursed must be reclaimed based on your statement.
