Could the Nagoya Protocol be relevant for you?
If a genetic resource is to be accessed as part of research activities, this access and the subsequent use of the genetic resource in the form of research can entail a number of obligations for the scientist. The basis for this is the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD, 1993) and the "Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization to the Convention on Biological Diversity" of 2014.

How does it work?
-
Quick check in advance: The human being as a biological object is not a genetic resource within the meaning of the CBD and the Nagoya Protocol.
-
Find out more about the issue on our info page.
-
The responsibility for checking whether a genetic resource is a research object lies solely with the scientist.
