Information about the degree program

The Bachelor's degree course in Chemistry is roughly divided into a compulsory and a specialization area:

  • The compulsory area comprises modules that provide fundamental knowledge in the areas of mathematics and physics and the basic knowledge in the core chemical subjects of inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry and physical chemistry.
  • In the specialization area, you can acquire in-depth knowledge in the following areas: The compulsory modules Analytical Chemistry, Construction and Materials Chemistry and Macromolecular Chemistry are combined under Applied Chemistry 1-3 in the study plan and can be taken variably as compulsory electives in the second (Applied Chemistry 1) and fourth semester (Applied Chemistry 2 and 3). Lectures, tutorials, seminars and practicals are held in each sub-discipline. In the tutorials and seminars, the theoretical foundations of the subject are deepened, while in the practicals students learn the skills to apply chemical working techniques professionally and independently.

The course is designed so that it can be studied full-time within six semesters. The course can only be taken up in the winter semester and the language of instruction is German. The timetable is structured as follows:

  1. At the beginning, you will study compulsory modules, followed by compulsory elective modules in the second and fourth semesters.

  2. From the fifth semester onwards, in addition to the in-depth compulsory modules, you can choose further modules from your specialization as well as an in-depth internship. In the final semester, you will usually write your final thesis.

In the communication techniques module, you will learn valuable soft skills and be prepared for a further Master's degree course in English.
