Architecture
Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)
You plan for our planet: In the Bachelor's degree program in Architecture at the University of Siegen, you will learn how to combine modern design with sustainable planning and social responsibility.
Your future begins in Siegen
The Bachelor's degree program in Architecture at the University of Siegen equips students with a repertoire of contextual knowledge that enables them to meet the demands of structural complexity. By integrating concrete design and construction tasks into the course of study (developed in consultation and cooperation with potential regional and supra-regional partners), pragmatic work is encouraged, whereby approaches to solutions, in accordance with applicable guidelines and regulations, are to be discussed and questioned, as well as the realization that concrete architecture is far more than a purely functional assignment. In terms of implementation, this means practice-oriented, research-based planning in the context of an appropriate aesthetic consideration of the design task as an inherent planning factor.
Admission procedure
The course is admission-free, but an aptitude assessment is required.
Enrolment deadline
The enrolment deadline is 20.09.2026. Participation in the binding aptitude assessment procedure is still possible until xx.xx.2026.
What you can expect
Whenever you commission an architect today, you expect both technical and artistic expertise. It is therefore not a question of whether architecture is a more technical or a more artistic subject; the essence of the discipline lies precisely in the fact that, like few other professions, it combines both dimensions.
Studying architecture
In the Department of Architecture, the sub-aspects of the architectural profession are represented by five subject groups / subject areas, to which all our teaching areas in the Bachelor's degree program are assigned:
-
Design
-
Design
-
Cultural studies and theory
-
Building economics and law
-
Construction and technology
If your talents are relatively evenly distributed between the scientific-technical and the creative-artistic areas and you are interested in both the theoretical-scientific and the practical-creative, you have good prerequisites for studying architecture.

Guiding principle and career prospects
Bachelor of Science
The guiding idea behind the structure of the Bachelor's degree program is the orientation towards the "classical" professional goal of the "architect".
The corresponding goal of the degree program is to prepare students for the professional tasks of an "architect", i.e. to be able to take on the creative, technical, economic, ecological and social planning of buildings. Creative, competent and critically thinking specialists are to be trained for these professional tasks. The qualification objectives in terms of content are aimed at providing a generalist architectural education.
Work in design projects dominates as a form of teaching. A wide range of elective courses creates space for the development of individual professional, instrumental and communicative skills.
Career prospects
In order to acquire the protected professional title of architect, it is necessary to be registered in the "List of Architects" at the Chambers of Architects.
In accordance with the requirements of the EU Council Directive on Architects of 11 June 1985 and the requirements of the Federal Chambers of Architects for the profession, the standard period of study must currently be at least 8 semesters. Accordingly, following the 6-semester Bachelor's degree course, a consecutive Master's degree is required in order to be able to apply for entry in the list of architects. The registration requirements are regulated in the building chamber laws of the individual federal states.
Master's degree programs of the Department of Architecture
