Studying with a disability or chronic illness
According to the 22nd Social Survey of the German Student Union, around 24% of students at German universities state that their health is impaired. 16% of these students feel that their studies are impaired by their illness or disability. The University of Siegen considers it an important task to reduce disadvantages for students with disabilities or chronic illnesses and to enable them to study despite health restrictions.
In addition to individual encouragement and support, this includes compensation for disadvantages, which gives them the opportunity to complete their studies and obtain a corresponding degree despite health restrictions. They can find advice and help from the University of Siegen's representative for students with disabilities or chronic illnesses as well as from the responsible persons in the departments, the central student advisory service, the Asta and the psychological counseling service. Students or prospective students who are restricted in their ability to study due to health problems or disabilities should first contact the representative for students with disabilities or chronic Illnesses.
The representative for students with disabilities or chronic illnesses supports severely disabled or chronically ill students in preparing for their studies, during their studies and in examination matters. You can discuss problems with her when choosing a course of study, completing your studies or graduating and work with her to find solutions.
Severely disabled or chronically ill students can obtain information here on study requirements, compensation for disadvantages, aids, starting a career and all questions relating to student life.
