Dos & Don'ts
We want you to feel comfortable in our library and be able to concentrate on your studies. That's why we have a few rules that apply to everyone and ensure that everything runs smoothly. To make your stay with us as pleasant as possible, we have compiled the most important rules for using the library.
- You are now allowed to wear jackets and coats in the library. We kindly ask you to use our cloakrooms for rain-wet outerwear.
- Please leave your bags and backpacks in our lockers in the entrance area of the library. Only slim cases (= laptop sleeves), mini handbags or similar are permitted.
- You can take water and tea in reclosable drinking containers into the library and small, dry snacks (e.g. nuts, muesli bars) may also be consumed in the library. For all other food and drinks, you can use the Bib-Café in the Main Library AR.
- In addition, we ask you to keep quiet, especially in the individual study areas, so that everyone can study and work undisturbed. We also ask you to go to the designated areas (e.g. foyer) to make phone calls.
- In addition, no animals are permitted on the university premises, with the exception of assistance or guide dogs.
Lockers in the library
For secure storage of your bags and, if necessary, jackets or other items, you will find lockers in the foyer of all library locations.
Lockers in the Branch Library H can be used with a €1 / €2 deposit.
Locker keys are issued in the branch libraries PB and ENC in exchange for a ID card deposit.
The lockers in the library locations AR and US can be used with locker cards. Such cards can be purchased for a deposit (EUR 5.00) at the circulation desks of the Main Library Adolf-Reichwein-Straße or the Branch Library Unteres Schloss or can be borrowed for a short period of use against a deposit (ID card).
Return of locker cards
Locker cards that are no longer needed (without imprint or with imprint "UB") can be returned at the circulation desks of the Main Library Adolf-Reichwein-Straße (AR) and the Branch Library Unteres Schloss (US) (AR: Monday - Friday until 5 p.m., US: Monday - Friday until 4 p.m.). The deposit amount (EUR 5.-) will be transferred to your bank account. The library needs your IBAN for this. We ask for your understanding that transfers can only be made to German bank accounts.
Initialization of the locker card as locker key
The initialization terminal is located in the Main Library AR in the foyer and in the Branch Library US to the left of the main entrance and in the basement. Hold the locker card in front of the symbol on the terminal: as soon as the message "Card ready" appears, the card can be used as a locker key.
Function of the locker system
To lock a locker, press the locker card against the gray button located below the locker number. The locker is now locked and can only be opened with this locker card.
If you have forgotten your locker number, it can be displayed by scanning the locker card at the initialization terminal.
