Bachelor's and Master's theses

Care request

We supervise theses in our field at the chair. We assume that you have taken one or more field courses at our chair and ideally completed them with a good or very good grade. In the Bachelor's program this is in particular the course Digital Economics and in the Master's program the courses Markets and Strategies I and II.

According to $11(1) of the Master's examination regulations from 2019, the Master's thesis should deal with a question from the research modules. Accordingly, you can write on issues from the area of markets and strategies and should have successfully completed the research module.

If you already have a specific topic idea for your thesis, please describe it on up to one page in an e-mail. In doing so, you should clearly emphasize your own contribution and also make the feasibility plausible. Refrain from specifying a topic without a corresponding description. You should also ask yourself whether the topic fits in with the specialist areas of the people at the chair. This includes topics in the field of industrial economics and the digital economy in particular, but topics with strategic and game-theoretical references are also conceivable. Both empirical-economic and model-theoretical theses are possible.

You should be open to suggestions for topics from us. For a supervision request, please fill out the application form
and send it by e-mail to team-hunold@vwl.uni-siegen.de. Please note that it may not be possible to consider all supervision requests. It only makes sense to apply if you fit the above description.

Helpful tips:

Scope and processing time

You can find all the necessary information in your examination regulations
in your examination regulations. You must registeryour thesis with the Examination Office in good time
(approx. 2 to 3 weeks before the agreed start date).

Scientific work

Before starting your thesis, you should already have some experience in writing seminar papers. We also recommend that you attend a course in academic writing. You will receive further information on request during your first consultation.

Writing software

As an alternative to the word processing programs available, we can recommend the free software package LaTeX. An editor based on this is LyX. LyX is similar in structure to the Word program, making it easier to get started. LyX is available here
available free of charge.

Another popular LaTeX-based editor is TexStudio. You can download TexStudio here
free of charge.

For an easy introduction to TexStudio and Lyx, you can use the following templates:

Demo-PDF, Demo-Tex, Demo-Lyx, Demo-Bib, Demo-Image

Literature research

The University Library offers you numerous electronic resources
to facilitate your literature search.

One database frequently used by academics is Google Scholar.

Please remember to use your VPN client to benefit from full access to licensed databases and electronic journals with full texts from the University Library.

Reference management

We recommend that you use a reference management system. For example, Siegen University Library offers all students a full version of the reference management system Citavi-Pro
to all students.

With Citavi, references can be copied quickly and easily from the web pages and put together alphabetically as a bibliography. Using Citavi will save you a lot of tedious work.

The University Library regularly offers courses on how to use Citavi. However, the program is largely self-explanatory.
