On November 20, 2024, the second symposium on networking in regional health care, titled “Services That Make a Difference,” took place at the Kulturhaus LŸZ in Siegen. The event was organized by the University of Siegen in cooperation with the Siegerland Health Region, the Siegen-Wittgenstein District, the Dementia Care Management Network, the Alzheimer’s Association Siegen-Wittgenstein e.V., the Caritas Association Siegen-Wittgenstein e.V., and the Regional Office for Aging, Care, and Dementia. The goal was once again to connect key stakeholders in regional healthcare in order to improve healthcare services in the region.

2nd Symposium on Networking in Regional Healthcare

In addition to hosting the symposium, the Chair of Business Information Systems, specifically IT for an Aging Society (Prof. Dr. Claudia Müller), organized its own workshop on the topic of “Digital Platforms in Regional Healthcare” through the efforts of staff members Stephan Krayter, David Struzek, and Jasmin Lehmann. The goal was to discuss the needs, requirements, and possibilities of digital platforms in order to identify initial use cases for developing such platforms. The high number of participants in the workshop clearly demonstrated the great interest regional healthcare stakeholders have in this topic.
Background:

Subprojects 4 “Health & Aging” and 5 “Social Affairs & Inclusion” within the FUSION project aim to help make access to health, long-term care, and social services more transparent, accessible, and close to where people live. To this end, they aim to develop practice-oriented and digitally supported transfer solutions in rural regions. Through a participatory approach, new concepts and solutions are to be developed and tested in collaboration with citizens, experts, and researchers from the region. Above all, the goal is to address questions regarding access by leveraging new opportunities offered by digitalization.
