Clara Schumann Comprehensive School Kreuztal
While many pupils visit regional companies for two weeks as part of their careers and study orientation internship in the upper secondary school, some pupils in the introductory phase at Clara-Schumann-Gesamtschule Kreuztal took the opportunity to take a closer look at the University of Siegen in a two-week university internship.
Various pupils got to know student life as real "Erstis" (first semester students) and settled into it. An initial orientation between the different campuses of the university was necessary; then they started their "university internship"
with the "study orientation weeks". Here they got to know various degree courses with the help of physical levitation experiments and chemical laboratory tours, among other things. They also received valuable tips about studying from student employees of the Central Student Advisory Service (ZSB)at the University of Siegen.
of the University of Siegen.
The pupils spent the rest of the practical course as "students", attending lectures and exercises in the lecture halls according to their own timetable. In addition to debt law exercises, guest lectures and mathematical equations, they also got to know the actual university through e.g. library tours, eating in the canteen and cafeteria and visiting the AStA store (store of the General Students' Committee). They were even able to witness a demonstration by the trade union ver.di, giving them an all-round view of the University of Siegen.
The sixth form students are enthusiastic about the University of Siegen, as it offers a wide range of degree courses. Even during the lecture-free periods, you are always well looked after and you have the opportunity to work in peace and quiet everywhere, the students reported at a meeting with their supervising teacher Bettina Meister.
Overall, the university internship was a great opportunity to set the course for a good professional future and to get a better idea of the life of a student and the daily routines at a university.
