Behind bars - an insight into everyday life in prison
Information event on the prison system at the University of Siegen
On May 13, 2026, the Chair of Social and Economic Psychology at the University of Siegen is once again inviting you to a lecture event on everyday life in the prison system. Under the title Insight into everyday prison life - psychological and social service work in the prison system, specialists from Attendorn Prison will give a realistic overview of their work "behind bars".
The event will be hosted by Prof. Dr. Andreas Kastenmüller, Professor of Social and Economic Psychology, and is primarily aimed at students, but is also open to interested employees and external guests.
The focus is on psychological, social and ethical issues in the prison system:
What does everyday working life in a prison look like? What role do psychological care, social work, addiction counseling and suicide prevention play? And how can the demand for security be combined with humanity and resocialization?
Ismael Blum from the psychological service at Attendorn Prison is expected to be one of the speakers. Further speakers from various areas of prison work are currently being requested and will be announced at a later date.
In addition to providing insights into the content, the event also serves to provide career guidance: the prison system offers a wide range of fields of activity, secure employment prospects and a socially relevant work context - aspects that are of particular interest to students of psychology, social work and related disciplines.
