Communication in Dementia

To mark World Alzheimer's Day, the Chair of Psychological Research on Aging at the University of Siegen is hosting a lecture on September 21 on the topic of “Communication in Dementia.” The event will take place from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the US-S seminar building, Obergraben 25, 57072 Siegen.
The lecture will focus on helpful information and practical tips for communicating with people with dementia. Professor Julia Haberstroh will present content from the recently published guidebook “Communication with Dementia,” which was revised in collaboration with people living with dementia as well as their family members and caregivers from the professorship’s dementia advisory boards and the Alzheimer’s Association Siegen-Wittgenstein.

Members of the dementia advisory boards will also participate in the event. They will discuss the process of revising the guide, their work on the advisory boards, and their personal experiences. With this event, the University of Siegen aims to raise awareness—on the occasion of World Alzheimer’s Day—of the importance of effective communication when dealing with dementia and to offer practical support to those affected, their families, and anyone interested.
