PenteQost Spring School on Quantum Science 2026
Experience quantum physics up close: From May 22 to 25, 2026 (Pentecost), the 3rd edition of the PenteQost Spring School on Quantum Science will take place at the University of Siegen - in cooperation with the University of Gdansk in Poland. The summer school is an international, interdisciplinary course in which renowned scientists from all over Europe introduce the basics of quantum science. Students of all disciplines are cordially invited - prior knowledge of linear algebra and basic quantum physics is sufficient as an introduction.
Registration: until May 02, 2026
What you can expect
The scientific program includes several lecture series on core areas of modern quantum science. Planned lecture topics include:
-
Open quantum systems and foundations of quantum mechanics
Introductory and advanced perspectives on quantum systems interacting with their environment, covering both conceptual foundations and experimentally relevant models.
-
Optimization and mathematical methods in quantum science
Selected optimization techniques, including semidefinite programming, and their applications in quantum information theory, the foundations of quantum physics and quantum technologies.
-
Bell's inequalities and non-classical correlations
Conceptual and mathematical aspects of Bell's inequalities and quantum nonlocality. Topics may include the formulation of Bell tests, the interpretation of violations of these inequalities, and the role of Bell's inequalities in the foundations of quantum physics and quantum information.
-
Introduction to ion trap systems and experimental platforms
An introduction to ion trap systems as a leading platform for quantum experiments and technologies. Topics include ion trap principles, coherent control, precision measurements, and applications in quantum information processing and metrology.
Workshops and laboratory tours:
- Visit to the quantum optics lab with trapped ions at the quantum optics group of Christof Wunderlich, presented by Patrick Huber (University of Siegen).
- Introduction to Qiskit, led by Chau Nguyen (University of Siegen)
The lab tours will take place on the Emmy-Noether-Campus (Walter-Flex-Straße 3)!
Who can participate?
Students in Bachelor's and Master's programs in physics, mathematics, computer science, electrical engineering and related disciplines are cordially invited to participate in the Spring School. Selected students will receive financial support to cover the costs.
Registration is still possible until May 2, 2026.
