Bachelor thesis
In their Bachelor's thesis, students generally carry out an empirical study on a psychological question, which is fully processed and reported on. It is usually written in the sixth semester.
You can find a list of current Bachelor's thesis topics for the Bachelor's degree program in Psychology in the regularly updated Moodle course Theses in Psychology. If you are interested in one of the topics, please get in touch with the named contact person. In this Moodle course, all professorships of the Institute of Psychology list their currently available Bachelor's thesis topics. These Bachelor's theses can only be written by students of the Bachelor's degree program in Psychology. Students of other degree programs should contact the lecturers directly.
The following rules apply to the application process:
- Students may apply for a topic or for a place with a lecturer to begin work on their thesis at any time.
- However, students may only apply for one thesis topic at a time, i.e. they may only contact one lecturer.
- The respective supervisor will reply within approximately one week. If you receive an acceptance, you have the place.
- If you receive a rejection, apply to your second choice. Make sure that your newly requested subject has not already been marked as "assigned".
- If you want to study within the standard period of study, you should have applied for a topic by 15.07. in the 4th semester at the latest.
Admission: You can only be admitted to the Bachelor's thesis if you have at least 120 LP. Please submit the application for admission to the Bachelor's thesis
at the examination office. Plan the processing period so that the end of the processing period falls on an opening day of the examination office. This ensures that you have the opportunity to submit your thesis to the Examinations Office by the last day of your deadline. If the topic of the Bachelor's thesis is changed again after admission, a declaration of consent from the first reviewer must be submitted (this should be done before the thesis is submitted!). For organizational reasons, the application should be submitted at least 2 weeks before the planned start of work.
Time and scope: The processing time is 12 weeks from admission. However, it is usual for empirical studies to begin before official admission, as data collection can take months and unexpected events can occur. As a rule, the Bachelor's thesis should not exceed 60 pages (incl. bibliography, excl. appendix). The thesis must include a title page, a table of contents and a bibliography. The topic of the Bachelor's thesis can only be returned once within four weeks of the start of the processing period. The thesis must be submitted to the Examinations Office (room AR-NB 0136) in two bound copies and in a single digital form (on a digital storage medium labeled with matriculation number and name without password protection) no later than the last day of the processing period. For the digital form, another identical digital version of the thesis should be submitted, which only contains the text of the thesis. This means that there should be a second PDF file on the storage medium containing only the text (summary, introduction, methods, results, discussion), i.e. without cover sheet, list of contents and abbreviations, bibliography, declaration of plagiarism.
Written assurance: The following fully completed, signed and dated written assurance must be attached to the thesis as the last page: Written assurance
