Event Announcements and Scheduling in unisono
In the Department of Architecture, students are required to register for all courses (required and elective modules, as well as design courses) in unisono.
Course registration opens for students in unisono. During this period, instructors cannot accept or reject students.
Note: Each winter semester, the required courses for first-semester BA and MA students have an extended registration period (until approximately mid-October). Therefore, enrollment in first-semester courses is only possible after this deadline has passed.
This phase allows students to register for additional courses (that are not yet full). Unlike during the first registration phase, instructors may already approve or reject students for a course during this period. Please note that courses that are already full do not need to be reopened for registration!
Dropping Courses
You can only drop a course in unisono during the registration periods. Additionally, you must do so by emailing the appropriate academic department.
Since there are frequently ambiguities regarding course drop procedures, the following procedure must be followed in accordance with the department’s decisions dated May 15, 2019, and November 2021:
Any registration for a course that has been approved by the instructor obligates students to withdraw from the course if they do not attend. This applies to all courses (except lectures), even if they could be repeated any number of times. If a student fails to withdraw, the Coursework or Graded Assessment will be graded a 5.0, and this grade will be reported to the Registrar’s Office.
- Withdrawal from seminars and elective courses must be submitted in writing (via email) to the department within 3 weeks after the start of the lecture period or, for elective courses, after the start of the elective course, and must be confirmed in writing (via email) by the department.
>> Withdrawal from a course via unisono is not possible after the official registration period has ended. - Each semester, registration for the “Design” Graded Assessment (BA 17–19 and MA 4–6) in unisono is mandatory during a specified and duly published period (within 6 weeks of the start of the design project, as listed in the exam schedule).
The end of the registration period also marks the end of the withdrawal period; after that, participation is binding, and the Graded Assessment cannot be returned one week before the exam date (FPO-B 2020, § 9 (5) and FPO-M 2020, § 9 (7). - Withdrawal from the design course must also be submitted in writing (via email) to the department within the deadline and confirmed in writing (via email) by the department.
>> If the student has already registered for the Graded Assessment in unisono, this registration must also be canceled by the student within the specified period. - In the event of a sick leave notification for the submission/presentation date, a scanned copy of the medical certificate must be emailed to the department on the same day.
The original certificate must be submitted to the department within 3 business days.
>> If the draft is submitted or presented at a later date, it cannot be assumed that the presentation took place in a timely manner for the purpose of receiving credit toward admission to the thesis.

Information on Internships
Basic Internship
The introductory internship consists of four weeks of practical work on a construction site or in a trade-based business, which must be completed before the start of the program. The department’s office (sekretariat@architektur.uni-siegen.de) will be happy to answer any further questions you may have about the introductory internship.
Please include documentation of any internships you may have already completed with your application. A certificate from your employer or the internship site listing the dates and activities is sufficient proof (you do not need to write a report).
Exceptions
Training in a relevant profession is recognized as the basic internship, as is training as a architectural draftsman. A diploma from a technical high school specializing in civil engineering is also recognized. In these cases, please submit your diploma to the department’s administrative office.
Internship as Part of the Elective Module
Objectives of the Internship
As part of the elective module 2ARCHBA22 (FPO2020) or 2ARCHBA33 (FPO2024), students may complete an internship. The internship is intended to introduce students to professional practice through specific assignments and hands-on engineering-related work in offices or on practice-oriented projects. In particular, it is designed to allow students to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during their studies to date, as well as to reflect on and implement the experiences gained through practical work. The student’s work should be characterized by independence and shared responsibility.

Support for People with Disabilities
Accommodations
If you have study-related limitations due to health reasons, you can apply for accommodations. This ensures that exams and assessments are designed, or the conditions are adjusted, so that you can perform to the best of your ability on an equal footing with others. The goal is to ensure equal opportunity and to offset any disadvantages resulting from your health situation.
Compensation for Additional Hardships
With accommodation for additional burdens, you can receive support if your ability to manage your studies is significantly hindered by special life circumstances (e.g., caring for family members). The goal is to ensure that, despite these additional burdens, you can achieve Coursework that is as fair and equivalent as possible. On the Family Services Office website, you can find out what requirements apply, what documentation is typically required, and how to submit your application. This ensures that your personal situation is appropriately taken into account during your studies.
Quality & Feedback
The quality management program at School II is dedicated to the ongoing improvement of teaching and academic conditions. The QM Coordination Office conducts regular monitoring and serves as the point of contact for both staff and students regarding all questions related to quality management. To this end, the department utilizes, among other things, program management, annual reviews, course evaluations, and various surveys (e.g., student and graduate surveys).

Univ.-Prof. Jan Kampshoff M.A. Architekt
Jan Kampshoff ist Architekt in Münster, Mitgründer von modulorbeat und Universitätsprofessor für Raumkonzeption und Entwerfen an der Universität Siegen. Seit 2005 arbeitet modulorbeat an der Schnittstelle von Architektur, Kunst und Urbanismus – zwischen temporären Installationen, städtebaulichen Interventionen und der Erforschung des Stadtraums als Medium der Kommunikation. Für die Skulptur Projekte Münster entwarf modulorbeat 2007 und 2017 die architektonischen Infrastrukturen. Mit der Initiative Freihaus MS – Stadt ist, wenn man drüber spricht sucht er seit zwei Jahrzehnten nach Wegen, Stadt, Kreativität und Kultur produktiv ins Gespräch zu bringen. Vor seiner Tätigkeit an der Universität Siegen war er als Gastprofessor an der TU Berlin (2017–2024) sowie als Vertretungsprofessor an der Peter Behrens School of Arts in Düsseldorf tätig. Seine Arbeiten wurden u. a. für den Mies van der Rohe Award nominiert und mit dem Bauwelt-Preis sowie dem Deutschen Architekturpreis ausgezeichnet. Darüber hinaus engagiert er sich im Vorstand des Westfälischen Kunstvereins und des Fördervereins Freihaus ms e.V., in der Initiative Ruhrmoderne sowie als Mitinitiator des Hochschulnetzwerks Gemeinsam für die Bauwende bei Architects for Future (A4F).
