Modern and reliable teaching requires functioning equipment. The "Better intact!" funding line steps in where equipment or materials used in teaching are damaged, destroyed or outdated. The quality improvement funds can be used to provide financial resources so that you can quickly replace or repair defective equipment or other important teaching materials - for modern teaching without technical hurdles.
Funding objective:
Funding is available for either:
- Repairs to a damaged device/teaching aid
- Identical replacement purchases of the same device/model/product/item or
- Replacement purchases that fulfill a similar function but may be a different model or brand. The replacement of teaching materials is also eligible for funding.
Only items and materials that are used directly for teaching purposes are eligible for funding.
If possible, repair will be prioritized as this is in line with the sustainability goals of the University of Siegen.
Target group:
Teaching staff at the University of Siegen are eligible to apply
Funding limit:
The funding limit is a maximum of €1,000 per application. Double or multiple funding is excluded.

Application formalities:
The following documents must be submitted with your application:
- fully completed application form (see section Application document)
- a quotation or cost estimate (Please note: In the case of a planned order from an existing framework agreement concluded by Department 1.3 , the framework agreementmust be specified ; see Procurement Service Portal).
- an informal confirmation that the faculty administration has been informed of the funding application
- an informal confirmation from the department spokesperson or working group leader that no other funds are available for the replacement or repair
- if necessary, an additional page with tables, graphics, etc.
Only applications in electronic form will be accepted for evaluation!

You will receive an e-mail confirmation of receipt of the application documents within 14 days.
Selection criteria
Required criteria for the admission of submitted applications are
- Financial necessity: applications will be considered where no other funds are available to cover the repair or replacement.
- Realistic and appropriate cost calculation: Applications that comply with the applicable legal framework (e.g. procurement guidelines) will be considered.
- Value for money: Applications will be considered if the funds requested are in reasonable proportion to the benefit of the repaired or replaced device.
Content criteria for the assessment of applications are
- Sustainability and cost-effectiveness: Priority is given to applications where the repair or replacement is resource-efficient and in line with the university's sustainability goals.
- Relevance to teaching: Priority is given to applications where the repair or replacement is highly relevant to the delivery or improvement of teaching.
- Modernization and innovation: Priority is given to applications where the repair or replacement contributes to the modernization of teaching, for example by updating technical standards.
- Added value for students: Priority is given to applications that achieve a broad impact and where many students benefit from the repair or replacement.
Selection procedure
Funding decisions are made by the Commission for Quality Improvement in Teaching and Learning. There is no entitlement to approval.
