Dr. Daniel Ludwig

Dr. Daniel Ludwig has focused his research on family businesses and German Mittelstand as well as quantitative research methods since the beginning of his academic career. His empirical research is complemented by many years of practical experience in the fields of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Following apprenticeship and his first positions in IT and consulting – including at an audit and advisory firm – he studied Media Management and Business Management, specializing in International Management, Marketing, and Human Resource Management.

As part of a cooperative doctoral program between the University of Siegen and University of Applied Sciences Koblenz, he examined family businesses at the intersection of crisis management and human resource practices. Methodologically, his dissertation focused on quantitative research approaches, with particular emphasis on the analysis of cross-sectional and longitudinal data.

At University of Applied Sciences Koblenz, Dr. Ludwig was engaged in research, teaching, and project management. His responsibilities included contributing to externally funded research projects, publishing scholarly articles and presenting at academic conferences, as well as teaching courses in academic writing and research methods, family businesses and German Mittelstand, enterprise software, and Data Science.

Since 2020, Dr. Daniel Ludwig has been working in the Data Intelligence division of the Debeka Group. In this role, he has held a range of specialist and leadership positions and has played a key role in establishing the foundations for Data Science and AI within the organization, including the introduction of the company's first internally developed AI service. Since 2024, he has also been co-responsible for the strategic and technical advancement of these areas and for the continuous integration of emerging fields and growth areas, including Generative AI, Agentic AI, AI Governance, and Trustworthy AI.
