Day of Learning Cultures 2026

On November 17, 2026, the Prorectorate for Student Affairs, Teaching, and Quality Management (SLQ) and the Prorectorate for Faculty, Continuing Education, and Sustainability (LWN) cordially invite all members of the University of Siegen community to the second Learning Cultures Day.
SAVE THE DATE!
Under the motto “Examinations Under Scrutiny,” the event is dedicated to the further development of a sustainable examination culture at the University of Siegen.
Participants will have the opportunity to explore the topic from various perspectives through different formats: Following an inspiring keynote address by Axel Krommer (FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg)—who, among other roles, is a founding member of the Institute for Contemporary Examination Culture—and the presentation of the 2026 Teaching Award in the morning, the afternoon will focus on active discussion. In topic-specific workshops, participants can delve deeper into aspects such as competency-based assessment, fairness, and the use of AI. In addition, a panel discussion will be held on the topic of compensating for disadvantages.
Another special highlight is the “New Practice Showroom, ” where faculty and students will present alternative exam formats and outstanding real-world results. You can view the related call for participation here.

In a “new-practice showroom,” you can explore innovative exam concepts and proven
formats that go beyond the beaten path. Here, you can present concept proposals,
exemplary samples of exam formats, models, listening stations, performances,
, and much more are possible.
Nomination for the 2026 Teaching Award
The University of Siegen presents the Teaching Award to recognize outstanding achievements and exceptional dedication to university teaching. The award is intended to strengthen the quality of teaching as a central feature of the University of Siegen and to highlight innovative approaches. The award comes with a cash prize of 5,000 euros.
The Teaching Award is presented annually on Learning Cultures Day, beginning in 2025.
A Look Back at Learning Cultures Day 2025
