Department 1.1 Occupational health and safety

Our tasks

  • Advising the management, specialist managers and employees of the University of Siegen on all matters relating to occupational health and safety.
  • Supporting the management in the implementation of occupational health and safety legislation applicable to the University of Siegen.
  • Position of the University's fire safety officer.
  • Coordination of health protection/health promotion.
  • Implementation and coordination of tasks
    • in accordance with §6 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act between the department management and the Occupational Health Center (AMZ) as well as the authorities responsible for occupational health and safety, e.g. the occupational health and safety administration of the Arnsberg district government.
    • arising from the Radiation Protection Ordinance and the X-Ray Ordinance.
    • relating to legal regulations in fire protection matters.

English advisory services

The Language Center offers individual counseling services for all English learners. These include writing advice, which provides support with writing texts, and language learning advice, which teaches methods and strategies for effective English learning.

French

The Language Center offers French courses for different levels, from beginners to advanced. The courses promote oral and written language skills and prepare students for their studies, examinations or stays abroad. It is also possible to complete the UNIcert® certificate.

German as a foreign language

The Language Center offers a wide range of courses in German as a foreign language (DaF) for international students, doctoral candidates and employees. These include semester-long language courses from A1 to C1, intensive courses and specialist language courses. The courses teach both language basics and subject-related skills and help learners to successfully navigate the academic environment in German.

Innovation lab

The Innovation Lab (Innolab) in room AR-Z 008 of the Center for Information and Media Technology (ZIMT) at the University of Siegen offers a versatile environment for exploring and using innovative technologies, such as virtual reality.

The lab is designed to familiarize students and employees of the University of Siegen with the latest developments in media technology and media production. It plays a central role in supporting courses and digital teaching by providing modern technologies and promoting their integration into teaching and learning processes. By using advanced media and IT solutions, the innovation lab helps to improve the quality of digital teaching and develop innovative teaching methods.

In addition, workshops on various ZIMT media and IT topics are held regularly in the innovation lab.

The Innovation Lab is open to all interested members of the University of Siegen. Dates for the workshops and training courses will be published here shortly. For further information and service requests, please contact the ZIMT.

Issue outgoing invoices with the ARES Fiori app

German/English

Authorized persons can use the ARES Fiori app to write outgoing invoices on behalf of the University of Siegen. Examples of applications include economic research projects, conference contributions or the sale of services and products.

Italian

Our Italian courses help you to better understand the country, its culture and everyday life - from Italian films and music to food, fashion and university life in Italy. In our courses, you practice speaking, listening, reading and writing in a practical way and can try out what you have learned straight away - when traveling, studying or exchanging with Italian students.

Japanese

The Language Center offers Japanese courses at various levels (e.g. A1-B1). The courses teach basic spoken and written language skills and prepare students for further learning steps. The courses are based on the international levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Key competencies

Communication is a key competence that is a natural part of the Language Center's language courses. Intercultural competence, presenting and conducting conversations in (foreign) languages, written communication in different situational contexts and much more are part of the action-oriented acquisition of a language.

In addition, the Language Center also offers courses on special aspects of communication, which are open to students from all Schools and can be taken as an additional qualification, as an elective or as part of a certificate.
