Chair of Solid Construction
The Chair of Concrete Structures offers courses in the civil engineering degree programs leading to the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) and Master of Science (M.Sc.) degrees.
The modules in the Bachelor's degree course cover the fundamentals of design and construction in reinforced concrete construction as well as an introduction to prestressed concrete construction. The Master's degree course focuses on prestressed concrete construction and special areas of solid construction. In addition, courses are offered in the fields of bridge construction, structural design in existing structures and FE applications in solid construction. Construction site excursions are regularly organized to extend and deepen the courses.
Further opportunities for in-depth study exist within the framework of student research projects and final theses. These are often related to current research topics being worked on at the Chair of Concrete and Masonry Structures. Furthermore, practical tasks with a scientific approach are offered.
Research profile
- Design and construction with ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC),
- Shear load-bearing behavior of reinforced concrete components,
- Mechanics of fiber-reinforced concrete and fiber-reinforced reinforced concrete,
- Strengthening reinforced concrete and prestressed concrete structures in building and bridge construction,
- Innovative façade constructions,
- Serviceability of reinforced concrete structures.
The Chair of Concrete and Masonry Structures is also involved in the Institute for Advanced Materials and Structures (FiBB)at the University of Siegen .
at the University of Siegen, where it works on an interdisciplinary basis within the School of Science and Technology as well as with other research groups and the regional construction industry in the field of researching, evaluating and developing sustainable building materials and construction methods.

Services
With its expertise and technical equipment, the Chair of Concrete and Masonry Structures is available to the construction industry, public building authorities and civil engineering firms. The range of activities covers the entire field of structural and civil engineering. A particular focus is the integration of innovative high-performance materials.
The extensive range of services includes
- Development, calculation and optimization of concrete, reinforced concrete and prestressed concrete structures,
- Application for funding and lead management of industry-related research and development projects,
- Advice and expert support for the use of innovative construction methods and non-regulated construction products or materials, e.g. via approval in individual cases (ZiE),
- Planning, implementation and evaluation of component tests, e.g. to obtain a general building authority approval (abZ), approval in individual cases (ZiE) or in the event of damage,
- Test-based design and use of other research-related calculation methods (e.g. non-linear finite element analysis), e.g. for structural design in existing buildings,
- Advice on all aspects of design and construction (further training and technology transfer).
In addition to qualified staff and modern hardware and software, the Chair of Concrete and Masonry Structures has access to the facilities of the building materials laboratoryof the Institute of Structural Engineering for experimental work.
