Holiday Care
To help students and employees better balance their work or studies with family life, the University of Siegen has been offering vacation childcare for the children of students and staff since the summer semester of 2008—another measure taken as part of the implementation of the target agreements under the “audit familiengerechte hochschule” initiative.
In an effort to align with the school breaks in the neighboring states of Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate, fall break childcare was offered for the first time as a two-week program in 2016. In 2017, Easter break childcare was offered for the first time, and in 2018, a one-time Pentecost break childcare program was offered as part of the Pentecost break in North Rhine-Westphalia.

During these periods, schoolchildren ages 6 to 14 can be cared for Monday through Friday on a weekly or daily basis from 7:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., or for half-days until 1:30 p.m. The program will feature a wide variety of age-appropriate, creative, and relaxing activities. Through collaboration with individual university departments and facilities, as well as external instructors, numerous exciting workshops are made possible each year. In addition, there will be sports, games, and fun, as well as a hot lunch served daily.

Employees and students can register for fall break childcare starting now.
For families outside the university community, registration will be available starting September 1, 2026, provided that care spots are still available at that time.
