Forms of working time
At the University of Siegen, various working time models promote the compatibility of family tasks and professional obligations.
Since March 2009, both academic and non-academic staff have been able to perform part of their work from home.
This measure to make working conditions more flexible was implemented in the course of auditing the university as a family-friendly university. The framework conditions for the former alternating teleworking are now being replaced by the new framework agreement for flexible working.
With the return to everyday operations, all employees who meet the relevant requirements (e.g. suitable activities) can now work flexibly without giving reasons, either regularly and alternately from home for up to 50 percent of their working hours or situationally, depending on the occasion, for up to 30 days a year. Of course, this also applies to the extension of existing agreements. Applications can be submitted as soon as the date for the start of everyday operations is known.
With the new regulation, the university is following its own aspirations and common concerns for
- more personal responsibility,
- the facilitation of forms of cooperation and work organization appropriate to the situation,
- a better interplay between professional commitment and individual lifestyle and thus
- a more flexible working environment that creates transparent conditions for a diverse culture of leadership and collaboration

Employees in technology and administration at the University of Siegen have the opportunity to participate in "flexitime" and thus organize their working hours flexibly in terms of compatibility. Within the framework of the applicable service agreement, employees can determine the start and end of their working hours themselves within a period from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Time recording devices are used to record working hours, which are operated by the employees themselves.
Further details can be found in the "Service agreement on the organization of flexible working hours"
.
Flexible working hours (without "flexitime")
In the academic area, as well as in individual areas of the University of Siegen, the "Service agreement on the organization of flexible working hours" does not apply. However, here too, great importance is usually attached to ensuring that individual arrangements regarding working hours allow a high degree of personal flexibility in terms of work-life balance.

Employees at the University of Siegen can reduce their contractually agreed working hours for family or other reasons.
With regard to the individual organization of a part-time employment relationship, there are a variety of options that support the compatibility of work and family. Both the employee's personal situation and the possibilities offered by the company must be taken into account. The scope of the weekly working hours is agreed individually for each part-time model.
It makes a lot of sense to limit the duration of part-time employment, as the entitlement to the originally agreed working hours is restored after the limitation period. The TV-L(§11 TV-L) already requires this.
