Fusion Projects
The FUSION project is a large-scale initiative at the University of Siegen scheduled to run for five years (2023–2027) and is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) as part of the “Innovative University” program. The project’s objective is to link the development of the University of Siegen with the transformation challenges facing rural areas.
The Chair of Business Information Systems, specifically “IT for an Aging Society” (Prof. Dr. Claudia Müller), is primarily responsible for two subprojects. Subproject 4: “Health & Aging” aims to develop practice-oriented and digitally supported solutions to ensure the quality of health and long-term care services in rural regions. Here, questions regarding preventive healthcare and active, healthy aging will be addressed using new opportunities offered by digitalization, particularly with regard to assistive (tele)technologies, from the perspective of caring communities.
Project partners:
Prof. Dr. Christoph Strünck (Faculty V: School of Life Sciences (LWF)), Dr. Rainer Wieching (Faculty III: Business Information Systems and New Media)
In Subproject 5: “Social Issues & Inclusion,” the focus is on the possibilities and opportunities offered by the digitalization of social services in rural areas, particularly in the fields of long-term care, disability, and psychiatry. Socio-informatics research contributes to organizational and digital cooperation and adoption support issues through participatory studies in the Praxlab, particularly in the field of health care.
In collaboration with Subproject 4, the research focuses specifically on the challenges facing rural aging societies.
