Preparing for the Aptitude Test
The Institute of Music offers prospective students a variety of counseling and course options to help them prepare for the entrance exam.

March 24, 2026, starting at 2:00 p.m., Music Hall at the University of Siegen
Once again this year, the Institute of Music at the University of Siegen is hosting an information afternoon for prospective students. Anyone interested in studying music with us is invited to attend. This event will be particularly helpful if you’re still unsure whether studying music is the right choice for you, or whether you meet the requirements for such a program or the necessary entrance exam. You’ll receive general information about studying music in Siegen and have the opportunity to take a sample exam in aural training (which will be graded during the afternoon), audition vocally, or perform on your instrument to receive feedback from our faculty on your level of preparation.
Here is the schedule:
2:00 p.m.: General information about studying music in Siegen, with an opportunity to ask questions
2:30 p.m.: Trial ear training exam
Following that: Opportunity to audition on your instrument or sing

To help students prepare for the entrance exam, the Institute of Music offers free courses. Through a series of progressive sessions, participants receive an overview of all exam-relevant topics in music theory and aural training, and have the opportunity to ask questions, work together, and practice tasks similar to those that will appear on the entrance exam. It is also possible to present and discuss prepared exam pieces for the instrumental and vocal practical portions of the exam.
The next preparatory courses will take place starting in March 2026.

The Association for the Promotion of Gifted Children and Youth in South Westphalia offers interested students an online course that provides intensive preparation for music studies and takes place weekly starting in November (Tuesdays from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.). The course “Listening to and Understanding Music” provides in-depth knowledge of harmony, aural training, and general music theory, and includes numerous practical exercises.
Successful completion of the course’s final exam is recognized as part of the entrance examination for the Institute of Music at the University of Siegen.
Unfortunately, due to insufficient enrollment, there will be no course this year!
