Teaching, Research, and Application

At the Chair of Materials Science and Testing, we combine teaching, research, and practical application in the development, characterization, and evaluation of materials. Our work ranges from analyzing material science relationships to solving practical problems in science and industry. Here, students, researchers, and industry partners can find information on courses, research projects, and opportunities for collaboration.

Research

Everything about our current research topics

Materialermüdung

Material Fatigue

We investigate how cyclic loads damage materials and how service life, safety, and component reliability can be evaluated.

EHLA

Hybrid and Additive Manufacturing

We are investigating how additive and hybrid manufacturing processes specifically influence the material state, microstructure, and component properties.

Turbine

Innovative High-Temperature Materials

We analyze materials designed for high operating temperatures and evaluate their behavior under thermal, mechanical, and corrosive stress.

Eisen

Circular Material Design

We develop approaches to use materials in a resource-efficient manner, increase recycling potential, and make recycling loops technically viable.

Our Projects

Our work focuses on research- and application-oriented projects related to the behavior, testing, and further development of materials. We address questions from academia and industry and investigate them experimentally

Aluminium-Coil
-

ASAAP – Advancing Sustainable Aluminum through Adaptive Processing

In the ASAAP project, the Chair of Materials Science and Testing is investigating how the homogenization and microstructural development of secondary aluminum alloys can be specifically controlled. In this way, the project contributes to the reliable processing of sustainable aluminum materials.

E-Car
-

Circular E-Cars

As part of the “Circular E-Cars” Research Training Group, the Chair of Materials Science and Testing is investigating materials science issues related to the recycling of materials from electric vehicles. The goal is to better understand and process streams of metallic materials and to make them usable for high-quality applications in line with a circular value chain.

Turn Materials into Your Strength

Learn to understand materials as a technology—as a specialization in the Master’s program in Business and Industrial Engineering or Mechanical Engineering, or in the Materials Science & Engineering program.

Vorlesung, Seminar

Business and Industrial Engineering

Master

Business and industrial engineers learn about both technical and economic topics right from the start of their studies. This interdisciplinary competence enables them to understand the different ways of thinking and issues in both areas.
