Dr. Mies is a Senior Manager (authorized signatory) in the Risk Advisory division at BDO in Cologne and Düsseldorf and specializes in the strategic transformation, implementation and assurance of risk management, internal controls and internal audit functions for various industries and company sizes. Prior to joining BDO, Dr. Mies worked as a management consultant and project manager at KPMG in the Finance and Governance Advisory - Corporate Risk Management division. As a member of the national leadership team for corporate risk management at KPMG Germany, his focus was on the development of risk management in the West region (Cologne and Düsseldorf).

Dr. Mies holds a Master of Science in Controlling and Risk Management and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a focus on Finance and Banking Management and Auditing from the University of Siegen. He was a lecturer at the FOM Hochschule für Oekonomie und Management, a lecturer at the KPMG Business School and is the author of numerous scientific articles on the topics of risk management and international accounting.

Dr. Mies is a member of the European Accounting Association (EAA), the British Accounting & Finance Association (BAFA), the German Institute for Internal Auditing (DIIR), the Siegen Forum for Accounting, Auditing and Taxation and the Economic Council of the CDU.

During his Bachelor's and Master's studies, Dr. Mies was a tutor for cost accounting at the Chair of Management Accounting and Control, a tutor for accounting and financial statements at the Chair of Auditing and Taxation and a student research assistant at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Siegen.
