Municipal elections 2025 - Nomination of persons for the election committees
An electoral board must be formed for each of the 76 voting districts in Siegen. In addition, there are a further 18 postal ballot boards in Siegen town hall. This means that 94 electoral boards with 8 members must be appointed on a regular basis. In addition to numerous municipal employees, a total of around 750 people will ensure that the election is conducted properly at the polling stations in Siegen.
As a public corporation, the University of Siegen is legally obliged to nominate employees resident in the city of Siegen for appointment as members of the election committees at the request of the city (Section 2 (5) of the Municipal Elections Act - KWahlG).
In order to fulfill this obligation, a list with the following data of all employees residing in the city area was sent to the City of Siegen from here: Title, surname, first name, address, date of birth.
Wherever possible, polling assistants are deployed in the electoral district in which the members of the electoral board reside. Assignment to the polling districts is carried out by the City of Siegen.
If you are considered as a poll worker, the city of Siegen will contact you in writing. When nominating yourself, please note whether you are willing to be available for future elections or whether you only wish to be nominated for the 2025 municipal elections. The prerequisite for voluntary work on the electoral board is eligibility to vote within the municipality.
According to Section 7 of the Local Elections Act, all Germans within the meaning of Article 116 (1) of the Basic Law and citizens of the other 26 Member States of the European Union who have reached the age of 16 on election day are eligible to vote:
- have reached the age of 16,
- have lived in the electoral area (in the municipality / city or district) since at least the 16th day before the election or - in the case of several residences - have their main residence or otherwise usually reside there and do not have a residence outside the electoral area,
- and are not excluded from the right to vote pursuant to Section 8 of the Local Elections Act (judicial disqualification from voting).
The members of the election committee are currently paid compensation of 45 euros for election day, while the election supervisor receives compensation of 60 euros. In addition, 20 x 100 euros will be raffled off among all election assistants.
The City of Siegen may also process the transmitted data for future elections, provided you do not object to the processing. If you wish to exercise your right to object, please contact the City of Siegen.
If you are involved in the local elections as a poll worker, you will be granted one day's leave of absence from work upon application, which* should be taken as soon as possible. Please enclose proof of your participation with your application and send it to your responsible personnel department.
