The University of Siegen has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the College of Education & Human Development at Georgia State University in Atlanta. The agreement is an important step in the expansion of international study and research cooperation and offers opportunities for student teachers in particular.

The partnership focuses on new exchange formats: Plans include study programs, virtual courses and an exchange in which students can spend a semester at the respective partner university. There are already concrete plans for American students to spend a semester in Siegen in the fall of 2027. A special highlight for Siegen students: Two places for a three-month school internship at the renowned Atlanta International School will be available from August. The program is supported by partial scholarships and enables student teachers to gain international practical experience and improve their language skills at the same time.

Prof. Dr. Daniel Stein and his colleagues from Faculty I Khanh-Duc Kuttig, M.A. and Dr. Christine Sing, M.A. took part in the trip of a delegation from Siegen, which was funded by the Comenius program. Andreas Bablich, PD Dr.-Ing. from Schools IV took part. An important contact person on the Georgia State University side was Dr. Ethan Trinh, Deputy Director of the Atlanta Global Studies Center. Trinh has been establishing contacts and initiating partnerships between the two universities since 2024 and coordinates the joint activities with Khanh-Duc Kuttig.

New perspectives are also emerging in teaching and research. Joint seminar series, virtual exchanges and collaborations in the field of applied linguistics are planned. In addition, initial contacts have been made with the Georgia Institute of Technology, which are particularly exciting for students and researchers in the natural sciences and engineering. Andreas Bablich visited the laboratories and facilities at Georgia Tech and introduced the University of Siegen to the scientists. Possible partnerships and points of contact between Georgia Tech and the University of Siegen's Faculty IV were also discussed.
