Podcasting in the OASE
Since 2022, the University of Siegen has created its own educational science podcast, "Bildung von Übermorgen", which is firmly integrated into the teaching of primary school studies. In our in-house podcast studio at the AR Campus, students plan, produce and publish their own podcast episodes and actively engage with current topics from schools and teaching.
Podcasting plays a central role in both the Bachelor's and Master's degree programs. In the seminar "Podcasts as a medium in schools and lessons", Bachelor's students work in small groups to develop episodes for use in elementary school, for example on topics such as dispute resolution or the first period. In the Master's program, podcasts on topics such as digitality and inclusion, educational justice or international school systems are created as part of a final module on school and teaching development. Each session has an overarching theme, which is individually developed by the students through their own sub-themes.
There is a particular focus on alternative forms of performance assessment. Students work together to develop criteria for successful podcasts, apply these to their own productions and reflect on their learning processes. Planning, recording, editing and publication are an integral part of the coursework.
The technical implementation takes place directly on site. The recordings take place in the OASE podcast studio, which has been continuously expanded in recent years and is now equipped with two Rodecaster systems. The students work with GarageBand for editing and post-production and are accompanied by specifically prepared material such as tutorials and instructions.
Selected episodes of the podcast are then published on platforms such as Spotify and make the students' work audible beyond the university.
