AI Future Center NRW

The Zukunftszentrum KI NRW supports small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and their employees in effectively integrating artificial intelligence and digital technologies into their daily work. The University of Siegen provides technology-focused and human-centered consulting: Together with companies, it analyzes specific applications of AI and supports their implementation. In addition, practical training and continuing education programs are offered to help employees develop the skills needed to work with AI. Particular emphasis is placed on a participatory approach that involves company management, works councils, and employees alike.

ZZKI

Project Description

In a specific real-world case, the Zukunftszentrum KI NRW supported the Siegener Zeitung in developing an AI-powered LLM that streamlines the daily processing of hundreds of press releases. To achieve this, requirements were first gathered through a participatory process involving the editorial staff, publishing management, and the works council; a comprehensive training dataset was prepared; and the language model was fine-tuned to meet the newspaper’s specific needs. In addition, a user interface was developed collaboratively to keep humans integrated into the drafting process, so that the bot preprocesses incoming press releases into print-ready drafts in a matter of seconds, while journalistic integrity remains the responsibility of the editorial team.
