Why should you study psychology in Siegen?

Professional

  • Close interweaving of basic and applied subjects: The lecturers who teach in the basic psychology subjects are also those who teach in the applied subjects and can combine the two. This also enables practice-oriented teaching.
  • Practical orientation right from the start: Right in the first semester, students are trained in psychological interviewing in the introductory module. This provides an exciting balance to the statistics and basic training, which is not available at other study locations.
  • All three important applied subjects: The fact that all three important applied subjects (clinical psychology; work, organizational and business psychology; educational psychology) are taught means that a broad application-oriented education is possible and our graduates have all options open to them at Master's level.
  • Involvement in current research: Students can work on current research projects in all of the Institute's working groups. This makes practical work much easier than in large degree programs at other universities.
  • Interdisciplinary research: Psychology has always been open to interdisciplinary research. This is practiced in Siegen; for example, there are close relationships with working groups in computer science (e.g. experiments with virtual reality), the social sciences and medicine. The Department of Psychology is also driving the development of the Siegen Open Science Initiative (SOPSI)
    is driving forward.
  • Diverse, individual profiles possible: A large selection of supplementary subjects allows each student to create their own individual profile. From public health, social work, business administration and computer science to medicine and biology, there are many options.
  • Modern buildings and service facilities: Psychology is home to many facilities (e.g. test library, laboratories, seminar rooms) in the university's most modern building
building (AR-NB). Other buildings such as the canteen, library and seminar building have been completely renovated
and have offered modern and sustainable working conditions since 2019. Another psychology location (since winter semester 21/22) is the Villa Sauer, which is connected to the rooms in the Lower Castle.

Organizationally

  • Close supervision: A smaller group of students in the double-digit range is admitted each year, so that close supervision by the professors and research assistants is possible.
  • Exchange between students and teaching staff: Students' concerns are discussed with the professoriate and the study coordinator in a regular semester meeting.
  • Study buddy system: Mutual professional support across semester boundaries.
  • And of course the excellent cafeteria: The cafeteria
University of Siegen is one of the best canteensin
in Germany and has won several awards.
