State subsidies
The state of North Rhine-Westphalia supports scientific projects with various funding programmes, particularly in areas such as innovation, digitalization, sustainability and social change. State funds are available both for application-oriented research projects and for structure-building measures.
In addition, the state offers targeted funding opportunities via the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) with the aim of linking science and industry more closely and strengthening technology transfer. Funding is provided for collaborative projects between universities, non-university research institutions and companies - with a particular focus on regional impact and social relevance. The programs are often advertised thematically and for a limited period of time, so early planning is recommended.
The Research Funding Unit provides you with comprehensive support - from identifying suitable calls for proposals to preparing applications and financial calculations through to submission. Seek advice at an early stage in order to best implement all the requirements of the respective programs.
Please note
In principle, applications for third-party funding - especially to federal and state ministries and their project sponsors - can only be submitted by legal entities, i.e. the University of Siegen, and not by individual researchers, institutes or faculties themselves. Therefore, all applications in this area must be signed by the university management or a person authorized to represent them in a legally binding manner. The signature will only be provided if the application in question has first been checked by the Research Funding Office.
The University of Siegen has a binding timetable for the review and consultation by the Research Funding Office. You can find this and further information in the document below.
