Day of learning cultures 2025
- Enabling Spaces -
On December 9, 2025, the Prorectorate for Studies, Teaching and Quality Management (SLQ) and the Prorectorate for Teaching Staff, Continuing Education and Sustainability (LWN) invited all members of the University of Siegen to the Day of Learning Cultures at the AR Campus from 10:00 to 17:30.
Under the motto "Enabling Spaces", participants had the opportunity to get to know innovative learning cultures in various formats: They were able to actively try out participative methods and creative spatial concepts in workshops, discover lively learning environments - from learning workshops to specialist laboratories - during the (introductory) tours of learning locations, and the Digital Teaching team's exhibition offered practical support for digital teaching scenarios.
Program in the morning
The morning of the Day of Learning Cultures began with a welcome from Prof. Müller-Naendrup (Prorector for Teacher Training, Further Education and Sustainability) and Prof. Merzendorfer (Prorector for Studies, Teaching and Quality Management). The university's learning culture mission statement was then presented, which formed the basis for the development of sustainable teaching and learning formats. The University of Siegen 2025 Teaching Award was then presented, recognizing innovative teaching developments and outstanding commitment in the field of university teaching. Another highlight of the morning was the keynote speech by Marcus Berger from the University of Erfurt, an expert in university learning workshops and digital teaching and learning formats, who spoke on the topic of "Opening up learning spaces - between networking, reflecting and redesigning".

Program in the morning
We are celebrating an important milestone: the presentation and publication of the University of Siegen's mission statement "Learning Cultures".
The mission statement was developed in a joint process involving students, teaching staff and employees and describes the principles, goals and values of our university learning culture. Together, we would like to use this moment to make the idea of diverse, open and future-oriented learning cultures visible and bring it into everyday university life.

With the new teaching award, the University of Siegen recognizes outstanding teaching achievements and special commitment to university teaching. Students were able to nominate their lecturers for the award and thus recognize those who impress with innovative formats, good supervision and inspiring teaching concepts. The prize money of 5,000 euros will be used to further develop the quality of teaching.
We congratulate the award winners Dr. Marcel Hartwig and Nadine Sucharda!
In his keynote speech, Marcus Berger (University of Erfurt) will ask how we design spaces that truly enable collaborative learning, thinking and action. The keynote invites you on a journey through physical, virtual, temporal and mental spaces - between networking, reflection and redesign. The focus is on the question: What spaces do we need to shape learning processes and collaboration effectively, consciously and sustainably?
Program in the afternoon
12:30 - 17:30
Poster session
In the poster session, university members presented their projects on diverse learning cultures - from the FLEX open-air laboratory for science learning in a natural environment to the development of OER and AI agents for language education to the use of VR glasses in foreign language teaching and much more. Interested parties were able to find out about current research and practical approaches in the areas of sustainability, digital transformation and transcultural learning and took the opportunity to exchange ideas with the project managers.
