"Prison up close" at the University of Siegen
What actually happens behind bars?On May 21, specialists from Attendorn Prison gave students from the University of Siegen exciting insights into everyday prison life. Included: a prisoner transporter to touch, protective clothing to try on - and lots of real stories from the day-to-day work of psychology, social services and addiction counseling.
An important goal: to arouse interest in careers in the prison system - with meaning, security and prospects.

Attendorn Prison is a new cooperation partner of the Chair of Social and Economic Psychology
Attendorn Prison is an open and closed prison. The first open prison in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia has been in Attendorn since 1968. In 2011, after almost 3 years of construction, the closed prison was opened next to the open prison.

What influence do Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Snapchat, Skype, Telegram, Twitter or TikTok have on our mental health?
88 percent of young people in Germany use social media. This was discovered by the Federal Statistical Office. Communication via social media is different from maintaining analog contact. Anne Möbert 's topic at the Children's University Siegen was therefore highly topical: social media and mental health.
Cooperation with the University City of Siegen
The Chair of Social and Business Psychology (Prof. Dr. Andreas Kastenmüller) will be working with the city of Siegen in future to support organizational and personnel development processes in the city administration. To this end, a cooperation agreement has been reached and a separate steering group has been established. In addition to a regular exchange and scientific support, it is also planned to award final and qualification theses for students in this area.

After the publication of his doctoral thesis with the title: Hedonic and Social Goals in Emotion Regulation, Rafael Wilms from Prof. Dr. Andreas Kastenmüller's research group took the final step towards obtaining his doctoral degree with the successful oral defense of his dissertation on August 11, 2020.
We wish Dr. Rafael Wilms all the best and every success for all future challenges!

The scientific contributions of M.Sc. Laura Dechert (on the use of various employer branding strategies in the recruitment of employees for companies) and M.Sc. Nicole Herfurtner (on the recruitment of female employees for male-dominated trades) to the 2018 annual conference of the renowned Society for Personality and Social Psychology (SPSP) were accepted, so that both will actively participate in the conference in Atlanta, U.S.A. in March 2018.

The Faculty Council appointed Prof. Dr. Andreas Kastenmüller as Chair of the Appointment Committee for the W2 Professorship of Psychological Methodology and General Psychology.
