Information on entering Germany with child(ren)
The first step is to find out from the responsible German diplomatic mission abroad which visa conditions must be met and which documents are and which documents are required for your family members' visa applications - ideally at the same time as you apply for your own visa. It may be that some documents are required that you are not yet able to submit at the time of application, as you have not yet moved to Germany yourself. In this case, please contact the German embassy or consulate and explain your situation. They will be able to give you further information. Information on entering the country with your spouse
If you are traveling with only one spouse, the process should be fairly straightforward as long as you have prepared all the necessary documents. If you are employed at the University of Siegen and are planning a stay of more than 2-3 years, the Dual Career Service will be happy to support your spouse. will be happy to help your spouse find a job.
Child benefit
If you are an EU citizen or have a residence permit in accordance with § 18b, § 18c or § 18d, you are entitled to child benefit. The monthly rate is between €219 and €250, depending on how many children you have. Further information on eligibility and child benefit in general can be found on the EURAXESS GERMANY portal

Parental allowance
To support young families, the state in Germany provides what is known as "parental allowance". This is intended to provide financial compensation for parents who temporarily work less or no longer work at all in order to care for their children. Parental allowance can be applied for for a maximum period of 12 months within the first 14 months of the child's life, provided the child was born while living in Germany.
Examinations for early detection and prevention
Early detection examinations make it possible to identify and treat health problems or abnormalities in your child's development as early as possible. The examinations should be carried out at certain stages of development and are therefore limited to certain periods of time. They are free of charge if they are carried out within these periods.
