Introducing the Faculty of Education, Architecture and the Arts

Faculty II offers an interdisciplinary constellation that is unique in the German university landscape: In particular, the social, spatial and art-related interfaces between the work of many academics* have led to an increasingly productive dynamic in research and teaching since 2011. Under its founding motto "Shaping Community", the faculty offers a variety of perspectives on a future to be shaped by humanity along the entire life course.

A department store is a department store - is a space for ideas

With the "_ _ _STADT" exhibition, the Kunstverein Siegen is opening up the Karstadt building, which has been vacant for years, as a temporary venue for art, architecture and urban research. International artists and students from the University of Siegen are transforming the concrete dreariness of the former retail space into a modern gallery setting.

Semester Opening for the summer semester 2026

The department cordially invites all architecture students to the semester opening on April 1 in the upper floor of the former "Druckhaus" of the Siegener Zeitung at Häutebachweg 17. Three days in the classroom without a safety net

Student teachers from the University of Siegen have taken over the entire Am Rosterberg comprehensive school - without any teachers in the background. The "school adoption" project, which is almost unique in Germany, provided authentic insights into everyday school life.

Conference: Practices of social control

Practices of social control in social/educational contexts

The conference is dedicated to the relationship between education and social control and focuses on a practice-theoretical perspective that can, among other things, make visible how social control is actually enacted in social/educational contexts and how unexpected consequences and constellations may arise. Together with selected, relevant researchers, central questions, methodological challenges and related research perspectives will be discussed.

Psychiatry in everyday life

The Center for Planning and Development of Social Services (ZPE) and the Institute for Social Pedagogy of Schools II at the University of Siegen are organizing the interdisciplinary conference "Psychiatry in Everyday Life - Implications for Social Work" in cooperation with the Berliner Werkstatt für Sozialforschung on 10.07.2026 at the University of Siegen.

Actors from the science and practice of psychiatry, social work, sociology, medicine and psychology are invited to discuss the growing importance of psychiatric categories in various institutional and private contexts of contemporary society in an interdisciplinary and, above all, cross-disciplinary manner.
