Admission requirements

Dear prospective students,

Thank you for your interest in studying to become a teacher in the Department of Music at the University of Siegen! Studying music in Siegen offers many opportunities and possibilities - it integrates music education, music practice, music theory and musicology, offers individual lessons, ensembles, projects, seminars, excursions, possible stays abroad and much more. You can find initial information on this in our flyer
and on the page about the courses on offer. We look forward to meeting you!

In Siegen, as everywhere else in NRW, admission to a degree course in music for the teaching profession requires a successful aptitude test.

Aptitude test date

Our next aptitude test date is June 26/27, 2026. If you are interested, please register with the secretary's officeby June 7, 2026.
of the Institute of Music.

Requirements

The requirements for the aptitude test differ for the various degree programs.

You can also find a summary of the requirements in our download area.

Innovations

This may be of particular interest to you: From winter semester 2023/24, it will be possible to study Digital Music Production in Siegen as an artistic major (BK, GymGe and HRSGe) or artistic minor (all degree programs). In addition, we now also offer the opportunity to study singing as a major artistic subject, either 'classical' or in the field of jazz-rock-pop. This option has been available for some time for the instruments piano, guitar/e-guitar, saxophone, double bass/e-bass and drums. And finally, we have reduced the requirements for the aptitude test in the elementary school part of the course: In future, the examination in the artistic minor subject will be omitted and the requirements in the area of aural skills have been simplified.

Recognition of a passed aptitude test

If you have already passed a comparable aptitude test at another university or university of music, this can usually be recognized in Siegen. Please send an informal application for recognition, copies of the aptitude test certificate (with individual grades) and your Abitur certificate as well as a current photo to our office; we will then check whether your aptitude test can be recognized.

Transition examination HRSGe / GymGe

If you were unable to meet the requirements for the GymGe degree course in your aptitude test, but were able to meet the requirements for an HRSGe degree course, you can first begin your studies in the HRSGe degree course and then transfer to the GymGe degree course at a suitable time. To do this, you will take a transition examination in which you only have to take the GymGe partial examinations in which you have achieved a grade lower than 2.3. Once you have successfully completed all of the required coursework and examinations in the HRSGe course, the coursework and examinations already completed in your GymGe course will be recognized and you will be placed in the appropriate semester.
