Admission to the music teacher education program in Siegen—as is the case throughout North Rhine-Westphalia—requires passing an aptitude test.

Aptitude Test Date

Our next aptitude exam dates are June 26–27, 2026. If you are interested, please register with the Institute of Music’s administrative office by June 7, 2026.

New Developments

This may be of particular interest to you: Starting in the 2023/24 winter semester, students in Siegen will have the option to study Digital Music Production as an artistic major (BK, GymGe, and HRSGe) or as an artistic minor (all degree programs). In addition, we now offer the option to study the artistic major in Voice either as “classical” or in the Jazz-Rock-Pop track. This option has long been available for the instruments piano, guitar/electric guitar, saxophone, double bass/electric bass, and drums. Finally, we have reduced the requirements for the aptitude test in the elementary school track: Going forward, the test in the secondary arts subject will be eliminated, and the requirements for aural skills have been simplified.

Recognition of a Passed Entrance Exam

If you have already passed a comparable entrance exam at another university or conservatory, it can generally be recognized here at the University of Siegen. To do so, please send an informal request for recognition, copies of your aptitude exam certificate (with individual grades) and your high school diploma, as well as a recent photo, to our office; we will then review whether your aptitude exam can be recognized.

HRSGe / GymGe Transition Exam

If you did not meet the requirements for the GymGe program in your entrance exam but did meet those for an HRSGe program, you can begin your studies in the HRSGe program and then transfer to the GymGe program at an appropriate time. To do this, you must take a transfer exam in which you only need to retake the GymGe sub-exams on which you scored lower than a 2.3. After successfully completing all required coursework, the coursework and exam results you have already earned in the HRSGe program will be recognized in your GymGe program, and you will be placed into the corresponding semester.
